About BDYC

“The best little yacht club on the Lakeshore”

The Baie-d’Urfé Yacht Club was founded in 1959 by Frank Booth and Miles Wisenthal, who set out to develop a harbour for small sailing boats in Berthold Park. The first harbour was dug in May 1959, and by the end of 1960 the club had grown to 67 members who raced 13 races that first year.

The harbour was enlarged in 1961, and the present harbour was built by the Federal Department of Public Works for Expo 1967. The club financed its expansion via a Town loan, and in 1968 the Town granted a 30-year lease. A modest clubhouse was built in 1969.

Today, BDYC provides protected moorage for over 70 sailboats with finger docks, a launching ramp, dry sail area for dinghies and catamarans, and winter storage. We offer an active Junior Squadron program (started in 1962), weekly races with neighbouring clubs, and social BBQs every weekend throughout the season from May through October.

Our waterfront clubhouse features a kitchen, indoor space with tables and couches, clean washrooms and shower facilities, outdoor green space with picnic tables and a deck, and BBQ facilities.

Home of the Ishkoodah Regatta — first held in 1897, the oldest continuously-run regatta in Canada. The first race was sailed off Thomson’s Point when W.E. Bolton presented a cup for a race between the Ishkoodah, Vixen, and Molly Brown.
